You likely have heard the old song that declaries, “The church is not a building; the church is not a steeple; the church is not a resting place; the church is a people.” And while this sentiment is true– the Body of Christ is not a man-made structure– it is also true to say that the spaces we inhabit hold meaning and value, especially when God’s love and presence has been made manifest in a particular place. One such place sits at 401 University Drive in Richmond, Kentucky and is the home and heartbeat of Eastern Kentucky University’s Wesley Foundation, a place that has been near and dear to so many students at EKU for the last 50 years.

Because a group of committed people in the 1960's believed that the students of EKU needed a dedicated place to meet for prayer, friendship, and Christian fellowship, now hundreds of students over the last 50 years have had a consistent place to find Christian community, grow in their faith, and establish lifelong bonds.

As you can imagine, the maintenance on a 50 year old building is challenging. Carpet gets stained, walls get scuffed, HVAC units quit, roofs need replacing, the list goes on and on.  But we are committed to the upkeep of this building, not just because Wi-Fi signals and couches make our space nicer for students, but because we believe the spaces within our building are set aside for special use–they are holy spaces.

Raising money for facilities, utilities, and supplies can often feel lackluster. It’s hard to ask people to put time, money, and resources into something that you know will wear down or need to be replaced again.  However, the funds that go to keeping our building in good condition directly impacts our students by giving us the ability to offer opportunities for worship, meals, and conversations where we can experience God’s love and his presence in our lives. We want to be the best stewards of the gifts that God has provided for the EKU Wesley Foundation and we believe that part of being good stewards is inviting others to join the mission. We have been so blessed and supported over the years by the generosity of churches, alumni, and parents who serve in a myriad of ways, including, cleaning, improvement projects, student meals, as well as financial gifts.

We are praying here at the EKU Wesley Foundation for others to partner with us. 100% of the money that is given during this campaign  will go to the facility improvements, utilities, upkeep, and other center supplies that we use throughout the year. To provide these things we budget for $10,000 each year. As our building continues to age it needs more and more improvements.  Any and all donation amount is welcomed whether that be a one-time gift or a monthly recurring gift.
